Castiglione di Siclia is one of the most impressive towns in Sicily. Located on the slopes of Mt. Etna, Europe's most active volcano, this town is officialy classified as one of Italy's most beautiful villages under Borghi Più Belli d'Italia. 

Only a 35 minutes drive from Taormina, one of Italy's most visited towns, culture and geography unite in this town to create an outstanding position. Yet, Castiglione di Sicilia, stands overlooking the Alcantara gorge and series of rivers in its valley, making for truly incredible views.

Taormina's constant international fascination regarding the Greco-Roman amphitheatre never ends even for locals. The town's castle 'Castello Lauria'  has become the headquarters of the 'Enoteca Regionale Siciliana - Eastern Sicily's' (or as they call it here - Sicilia Orientale - because this part of Sicily faces east).  

The association involves municipalities, wineries and grape producers from the Eastern part of Sicily, which are aimed at enhancing and promoting the wine heritage of the whole Eastern Sicily. This organization is responsible for several public authorities and wineries who have all united to promote the unique wineries which in recent years have not only been celebrated by major wine connoisseurs, but also awarded some of the top prizes in international circles such as the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and the Wine Enthusiast's annual Wine Star Award. 

All of these wines can be found, tasted and enjoyed with spectacular views of Mt. Etna herself at the Enoteca Regionale Siciliana inside the Lauria Castle at the height of Castiglione di Sicilia.  The castle, even for those who donìt drink, is worth a visit unto itself, if only to experience an incredible place with 365 degree views of the valleys below and the gardens, rooms and energy, nobody can deny when they come here.  

In fact, many other activities including language exchanges will be happening here and you can even enjoy this space and this town while learning Italian and Italians can now enjoy learning English.

The castle at the very height of the town is incredible and it is from the building of the castle, the town itself takes its name 'Castiglione di Sicilia', quite literally translated as 'big castle' from the Latin term 'castillum'. Built as a defensive structure, its origins date back to the Norman-Swabian period.
