Pachino, not only tomato’s
Pachino is a small Sicilian town of 21 thousand people near to Siracusa, in the middle of an area that is one of the centers of the Sicilian Baroque.
The town takes is name Fromm Greek “Pachys” that means fruitful, in fact Pachino is known all over the world for the cultivation of the “Ciliegino di Pachino”, a little sweet tomato’s that as revived also the famous IGP.
Pachino is a village economically based on agriculture, but not only of tomato’s.
The land, since the middle of XIX century, is rich of cotton and above all of grapevine, this one was and is also now, a great resource for the exportation of musts and wines to the north Italy and France area.
Another famous production of the land is which of the red tuna Bottarga, that is specifically produced in Marzamemi, following ancient Arab traditions, and became the queen of the classical Sicilian recipe: “Spaghetti bottarga e limone”.
The Pachino area is chosen from tourists, not only for food and wine experiences but also because of is closeness to other little hearts of Sicilian culture like Noto, Marzamemi, Vendicari, Modica and the ancient Siracusa.
Noto is a little heart of classical Sicilian Baroque, his cathedral, often chosen like location for important marriage, shows in all his beauty, all the characteristics of the baroque arts.
Marzamemi is known for the activity of the port, center of the commerce and economy of the area.
Not so far, Vendicari, hosts one of the most important natural reserves of the island.
Modica is a Baroque town, in which art and culture are mixed with another food symbol of Sicilian land: the Modican Chocolate. The particularity of this kind of chocolate, is the fact that during the production there is the omission of the fusion process, so the sugar and the cocoa butter remains separated.
And last, Siracusa a very ancient city founded during the classical age, in which is possible admire the rests of the Greek culture, in monuments like the Greek Theatre or the Ear of Dionysus.
